Lynn’s trial is stalled to next year

THE trial of former solicitor, Michael Lynn, who was extradited from Brazil in 2017, has been delayed to next year.

The latest hearing date set for Lynn’s case has now been listed as January 11, 2022 in Dublin’s Circuit Criminal Court – almost five years since he was brought back to Ireland from Brazil.

Mr Lynn was released on bail in June 2018 with an independent surety of €100,000 provided by his sister, pending his expected trial that was set for January 2020.

In all, Mr Lynn (53), who fled Ireland in 2007, is facing 21 charges of stealing almost €30m from seven financial institutions. In one of the sample charges, Mr Lynn is accused of stealing €4.1m from Irish Nationwide on April 4, 2007. In another, he is charged with stealing €3.6m from Ulster Bank on October 20, 2006.

The DPP has indicated the trial should take 16 weeks.
